COVID-19

At Kingston Respiratory Services (KRS) we aim to provide timely, precise and thorough testing information to be used in the diagnosis of respiratory diseases. COVID-19 has been a shock to the whole world and medical community. Unfortunately, this virus is going to be an ongoing issue for months or even years to come. With this in mind KRS has invested in technology upgrades for our pulmonary function testing areas to maximize patient safety. This will allow us to once again serve our patients and assist with obtaining diagnoses for respiratory disease while preventing unnecessary risks.

Please read below for a step by step review of the safety measures being taken

Arrival and Check In

  • Arrive at our offices and check in with reception.

  • You will have to answer screening questions and forehead temperature will be taken

  • After you check in you will wait in your vehicle in front of our offices - this prevents having to wait in our waiting room or be around other patients. Parking is free and right out front!

  • At your appointment time you will be called on your cellphone and brought straight into our testing room

Testing Rooms

  • Each testing room has a dedicated high flow HEPA filter running which ensures multiple air exchanges per hour. This exceeds Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) guidelines issued by Public Health Canada.

  • Every night the HEPA filters are sterilized with UV-C light at a dose recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). This dose is multiple times the required dose to kill COVID-19.

  • Between every patient testing rooms are treated with UV-C light using the Lind Apollo LED UV-C light. This is a state-of-the-art hospital grade decontamination system being used in ICUs, ambulances, emergency rooms etc. (Click - more info)

  • Additionally, all patient contact surfaces are wiped down between each patient with a virucidal wipe. Disposable HEPA filter mouthpieces are used.

  • All our respiratory therapists are wearing gowns, masks and gloves to prevent any between patient contamination.

We have taken every step possible to make your visit to Kingston Respiratory Services as safe as we can. No other pulmonary function testing laboratory in the region is using these technologies. With these measures combined we exceed all current guidelines outlined by Public Health Canada.

Kingston and the surrounding region has also been lucky to avoid heavy case rates of COVID-19. Check the Kingston Public Health website by clicking here to see the current local infection rates for yourself.

We look forward to serving you and assisting with diagnosing/monitoring your respiratory conditions.
